They Keep Pulling me Back in.

The man with unbreakable skin can be found in Harlem, trying to lay low after being given his powers. This takes place sometime after the first Avengers movie and the first season of Daredevil. Luke is working multiple jobs to help pay bills. He spends most of his time cleaning up at Pop’s Barbershop, and at night, he washes dishes at a club. We find out that he has powers, but is laying low to avoid conflict.

Chico is one of the workers at Pop’s Barbershop. After hearing about a weapon deal from his friend who works at the club that Luke works at, they decided to intervene and rob it. The man behind the deal is Cottonmouth, a Harlem crime lord. Once he found out, he set out to get his money back by any means necessary.

***Warning: Spoilers***

The premiere started a little bit slow, but definitely picks up over time, especially when it comes to Cottonmouth’s money. When it comes to revealing a villain, when he beats beats one of the kids who stole his money, it is brutal. The visuals are action packed!

Compared to the other Defenders, this definitely sets a different tone. Because it’s set in Harlem, you get to see this socioeconomic group’s everyday struggle. With that as well, you get an awesome soundtrack. Funk, RnB, Hip Hop, it’s all here. In the premiere, we even get a “live” performance by Raphael Saadiq.

I had a pleasant time watching this first episode of the new Marvel Netflix series. I enjoyed the previous shows so far and can’t wait to watch the rest of the series.
