Stranger Things Season 1 (2016) Review

Strange things are going on in Hawkins, Indiana.

After the disappearance of a local boy, a chain of weird events begin to happen around the tight-knit town of Hawkins, Indiana. When the friends of the missing kid start looking for him, they come across a bald girl with powers that changes their lives from then on. What happens to them? Let’s find out in my review of Stranger Things Season 1

***Warning: Spoilers***

The gang consists of Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Will. When Will goes missing, they happen upon a girl, who only goes by the name, Eleven. It turns out that she has powers, and that her Dad is looking for her. These powers include Telekinesis and a form of Astral Projection. The use of these powers are most likely the reason for the “Strange Things” happening. By this, I mean Crazy Monster abducting people and bringing them to an alternate universe.

This was a fun show to watch. It definitely is a change of pace from shows that are released today. The story did a good job at not being predictable. There is a throwback feel to older shows and movies like E.T.. The production value was good and it felt like the year it was set in. Costume and Hair-and-Makeup did a good job in contributing to this. The CGI wasn’t the best, but I didn’t expect it to be for a Netflix original.

This may not be suitable for younger audiences, but you should watch it if you can. Although it may be classified in the Horror genre, that shouldn’t stop you. It doesn’t have any cheap scares, but it does creep you out with it’s atmosphere. I can’t wait for season 2.

Recap

+ Change of Pace compared to other current shows
+ Great Production Values
- CGI isn’t the Best
