It’s time for another Fastlane, to determine who get’s to fight Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania, but first we have a couple of matches to cover.
First up, we have a beef to squash between Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch with Team B.A.D.’s Naomi and Tamina. After weeks of Sasha’s fallout with Team B.A.D., Fastlane was where to decide it. The battle was filled with Naomi and Tamina’s sly antics, to where it seemed like they were gonna win. Sasha and Becky ended the match with a dual submission. Other than finishing a storyline, this match didn’t really stand out to me. This could have easily been a Raw or Smackdown match.
Next up, Dolph Ziggler was vying for a rematch against Kevin Owens for the Intercontinental title. Dolph’s high flying against Kevin Owens’ pure power was a match to be seen. While the match was going on, it seemed like anyone could be the victor. In the end, Kevin Owens dodged a match-ending superkick from Dolph and finished the match with his signature Pop-up Powerbomb. This was a fun match to watch. Both Athletes really brought their whole arsenal to the match.
With the Wyatt Family always terrorizing people, you can count on a match including them. This time around, Ryback, Big Show, and Kane were involved in the fray. This match was a powerhouse of the bigger athletes in the game. The leader of the clan was ringside, so there was certain to be uncaught interference. In the end, Ryback Shellshocked Luke Harper for the victory. Another fun match, you don’t often get even matchups against the Wyatt Family.
Coming off of her fallout with Team PCB, it was time for Charlotte to take her heel reign out on someone else. This time it was on Brie Bella and her husband, Daniel Bryan. I personally don’t know the reasoning for that target, but you gotta be heel somehow. Brie tried her best, but with the Flairs pulling their cheating tactics, it was too much for her, ending with a victory for Charlotte. This match wasn’t as entertaining. Although I get that Brie is sort of carrying on the Yes Movement, it just isn’t the same without Daniel Bryan.
Here we have another Chris Jericho vs AJ Styles grudge match. For a while, Jericho has been ushering in AJ Styles time in the WWE. Because they share similar careers, they have been on each other’s cases about it. High flyer vs high flyer, it could have been more entertaining, if they hadn’t had them face off multiple times before. In the end, AJ won by submission and earned the respect of Jericho. Everytime I see the hand extended for a shake, I couldn’t help but think it was a little corny, the 2nd or 3rd time around.
I’m pretty much going to skip this part of the show, because I was almost completely uninvested. New Day, Edge & Christian, and The League of Nations were beefing for some reason. R-Truth had a match with the Social Outcasts that was not worthy of a PPV. When Gold Dust came out, I was hoping for a crazy team-up thing, but it ended up being a disappointing loss. Nothing special here.
Finally, we arrived to the Main Event. Vying for a spot in the Main Event at Wrestlemania, Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar, and Roman Reigns faced off in a Triple Threat Match. It was fun having all three of the different styles facing off. At one point, Dean and Roman decided to team up to try and eliminate Lesnar by power bombing him through 2 announce tables. With the beast incapacitated, for the time being, the brothers-in-arms battled it out for the win. Near the end, as Roman attempted to Samoan drop Dean, Lesnar came out and suplexed both of them. Dean eventually brought out a chair and attacked both of his opponents, but in the end Roman speared and pinned Dean for the win. This was a fun match to watch, but with what seems like a forced storyline, I and most people are over Roman being the guy out for the championship.
Overall I was pretty disappointed with this PPV. I guess I can’t expect much from the last one until Wrestlemania. I feel like a lot of the stories were forced to set up Wrestlemania. The thing to look forward from now is just the big stadium show in April.
