Zootopia (2016) Review

We aren’t too different from the animal kingdom

Zootopia is a place where Predators and Prey live harmoniously together. When animals start go missing, red flags start popping up. At the same time, animals are being reported to have gone savage and are attacking civilians. Are these two things correlated? Let’s find out in my review of Zootopia.

In Zootopia, we follow a bunny named Judy Hopps, as she starts her first few days as a police officer. Bunnies have never been officers, so Judy is sure to experience difficulty. Reports of missing animals have been popping up, and no one knows why. Judy takes it upon herself to investigate the missing cases.

***Warning: Spoilers***

Zootopia creates a utopia, where opposing factions could live in harmony. In their history, Prey was hunted by Predators. Since then, everyone was treated as equals, for the most part. Some jobs, like the police force, are still meant for the Predators. Judy tries to break the mold and be the first bunny in the Zootopia PD.

This idea of Predators and Prey reflect Race and Racism in our own society. There really is a meaningful message in here, probably a bit too close to home for a Disney Animated film, in my opinion. This theme makes the movie more than a just a “kids’ film, it makes it for anyone. We can all learn from this film.

The world is filled with life. When we first go through the city, we get to see multiple environments that weren’t covered in the film. I hope that they make other films that explore these other sections of the world.

This film is really fun and covers real issues at the same time. It did get a little serious for my taste for a kids movie, but that’s just my opinion. Child or adult, I feel that anyone would appreciate this movie.

Recap
