The only way for Kamala to go to the school dance is to stop a villain's evil plot.
After Loki is sent to Jersey City to learn about Ms. Marvel’s first foe, The Inventor, he learns about a school dance going on at the local High School. Knowing this, he crashes it in hopes of finding this foe. Kamala’s parents won’t let her go obviously, but nothing can stop Ms. Marvel from saving the day.
This quick detour in the story of Ms. Marvel, gives us a break after the story of The Inventor. Featuring the younger Loki, we can only expect mischief from his antics. It’s always fun to see an Asgardian interacting with citizens of Earth, especially here with high school students. Eventually we see that Loki has spiked the punch bowl, it could have been anything, but since this was a more light hearted issue for Valentine’s day, it’s just a harmless truth serum in hopes of finding out about The Inventor. Other than feelings, Ms. Marvel managed to prevent anyone from being hurt. So when she does intervene, it sort of feels like Loki does avert his plans really easily without conflict, so that sort of left me unfulfilled in the end, but still a fun story.
Elmo Bondoc’s art is a change of pace from previous artist, Adrian Alphona. The way that he draws the characters, gives them a more relaxed feel from the seriousness of Alphona’s style.
This is a fun one-shot within the Kamala Khan story. You can pick this up without have read the previous issues and still pick up with Kamala and her friends as they experience the lives of high schoolers. Check it out!
