Royal Rumble 2016

This year’s Royal Rumble was a sight to be seen. With this year being the first one versus all rumble, Roman Reigns had to start as the first entrant, to defend his WWE Title. Winning as the first entrant sounds crazy! As always, there are tons of surprises, so let’s get into it.

As always Roman had his traditional descension down the stairs, starting the Rumble. Rusev was the second to come in, so you’d think it would be a hard start for Roman. Rusev surprisingly was eliminated, not long into the match. The next to come out was Aj Styles, I myself, don’t really know about him, but he seemed like a big deal to everyone as he made his WWE debut.

As the match went on, people came, people went. Some notably early on included: Chris Jericho, Kane, Ryback. Then came some of the fun and entertaining entries. When I saw Kofi Kingston come out, I was looking forward to what creative way he had planned to avoid elimination this year. Previously, he would land on his hands (feet didn’t land), and crowd surf on the Rosebuds. This year, he ended up landing on Big E’s shoulders and went to parade around the arena. The next notably funny event was when R-Truth ran out, grabbing a ladder and climbing it as if it were a Ladder match. Even though the confused R-Truth character is losing it’s shine, I still find it really funny.

At one point in the match, Roman Reigns was pulled out of the ring by the League of Nations and was bullied, leading up to a splash by Rusev, breaking the announcing table. He was escorted out to be evaluated. The match proceeded as this happened. More men entered, more eliminated.

When all of the Wyatt Family had entered, it seemed like they were dominating. This seemed like a brick wall, until Brock Lesnar came out. He ripped through everyone in the ring, slowly eliminating the secondary members of the Wyatt’s. But because there were no disqualifications, the eliminated Wyatt’s all ganged up on Brock and threw eliminated him, although it seemed dumb and unfair.

Soon, the match came out to be Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, Dolph Ziggler, Chris Jericho. Like the story my graduating class had during Grad Night at Medieval Times, Roman Reigns came out of nowhere, when we thought he was done early on. Soon, the bane to his existence came out in a surprise entrant in the form of Triple H. We haven’t seen him since Roman Reigns reportedly sent him to the hospital. As events went on, Triple H managed to eliminate Roman, and all that was left was him and Dean Ambrose. Winning a Last Man Standing match early on, you would be surprised if Dean were to win, but I was still cheering for him. Eventually, Triple H managed a surprise victory, eliminating Dean.

I was really surprised to see Triple H winning the whole thing. Does this mean that he will join the active roster again? Will he be wrestling every week? Since he won the Royal Rumble, that does mean that he will be headlining WrestleMania. As we learned early this year, The Rock announced that he will be there as well. Does that mean that the Main Event can be Triple H versus The Rock? Only time will tell. But for now, this was another Royal Rumble for the books.
