The Infinity Gauntlet (2015) #1 Review

“They’re everywhere!!!”

Somewhere in Battleworld, in a domain that looks post-apocalyptic and overrun with man-eating bugs, we find a family fighting for their lives. Waiting for something to rescue them from this nightmare, let’s see what happens in “Infinity Gauntlet” #1.

With Secret Wars in full swing, patched lands of the previous multiverse contain people from those previous universes. The “Infinity Gauntlet” is set in one of these domains, and this one is very dangerous. Think of “Starship Troopers” meets “The Walking Dead”. Giant man-eating bugs are everywhere! And one family is stuck in the middle of it. Holding onto the faith of their mother coming back, this family fights for their lives everyday. Their mother is one of the last Nova’s in the Galaxy, and she’s been called as reinforcement, leaving her family behind. When everything looks bleak, we get a surprise visit.

Fresh off of his last Nova run, Gerry Duggan sets off to tell another compelling Nova story. I fell in love with Nova during that previous run, and it’s good to see him unfolding another series involving them. As we learn about this family, we instantly fall in love with them, and we want them to survive this crazy situation. They are your normal everyday family, so having to deal with giant man-eating bugs proves to be difficult and scary. The art is beautiful and makes the characters feel realistic, in comparison to the “comic book look.” When we get near the end when our protagonist stumbles upon an Infinity Stone, and shortly after, her mother arrives, I can’t help but cheer for them. The pacing of this book was perfect!

If you loved the previous “Nova” run like I did, you’ll love this book. Even if you like “The Walking Dead”, you’ll love this book. Maybe if you like comics in general, you’ll love this book. Definitely check this out!
