Starting to feel like episodes
A new threat is imminent in an uncharted nebula of space. It seems like the only ship suited for the trip is the USS Enterprise. What will happen to Captain Kirk and his crew? Let’s find out in my review of Star Trek: Beyond.
After a distressed alien arrives to Yorktown, a state of the art Federation base, the crew of the Enterprise volunteers their ship and crew to find out what happened to the alien’s crew. When the crew arrives in the uncharted nebula, they find something that they definitely were not looking for.
*** Warning: Spoilers ***
Instead of a singular ship, the crew comes across a swarm of ships that annihilates the Enterprise in no time. The crew then becomes stranded on a closeby planet and needs to find their way off.
Soon enough, the crew figures out that the one behind this attack is actually a previous Federation Captain who is seeking revenge. His plan is to utilize a weapon against Yorktown to send out a message. It’s up to Kirk and his crew to stop him.
At the beginning, Kirk said that it’s starting to feel like episodes, and that’s what this is feels like. Compared to the first two movies, this just feels like new episode of Star Trek. That may and may not be a good thing. It just ends up being another situation that happens to the crew and how they solve it. Other than that, it still manages to entertain.
The cast is as strong as ever. It seems that they are a lot more comfortable with each other. We get a lot more comedy this time around. The character of Jaylah is a welcomed addition, let’s see if she makes her return in future movies.
If you liked the other Newer Star Trek movies, you should be able to like this one too. With a new director at the helm, it feels a little different, but still pretty similar. Check it out if you want to.
