NewJeans - How Sweet (2024) Review

“How Sweet” is the latest single album for ADOR girl group, NewJeans. This release features 2 tracks, along with their respective instrumental. The track of the same name serves as the title track.

1. How Sweet

NewJeans is at it again with their modernization of 90s music. This time, we have a blend of electro-pop, funk, new jack swing, and hip-hop. There might also be some 90s club dance in there somewhere. Whenever I hear a song from them, it always sounds like songs I grew up with, giving me that Ratatouille flashback kind of feeling. This is a really fun song. Guaranteed to get people dancing.

2. Bubble Gum

They did it again. Another modern NewJeans take on a 90s genre. This one is more of a pop and r&b song. I can’t put my finger on the exact sub-genre, but it also reminds me of G-Funk music, once again triggering that zolly movie shot. That flute line and floaty vocals give this song such a dreamy feeling.

Summary

Whatever they’re doing over at ADOR, they know how to appeal to my music taste. The group has touched on the 90’s concept, but this album dives in completely, while keeping their identity. My only complaint is that there’s only 2 songs on this release. I can’t wait to see what else they put their stamp on.
