ILLIT - SUPER REAL ME (2024) Review

“SUPER REAL ME” is the debut EP for BE:LIFT Lab girl group, ILLIT. The group was formed from the survival show, ‘R U Next?’ There are 4 tracks in total. The title track is, “Magnetic.”

1. My World

The first track is a little funky to start things off. It gives off a relaxed vibe, while feeling bubbly at the same time. The prominent bass line gives the song a driving force. The sound processing of the synths is what gives the unique vibe to the song. You can imagine this song as a day out with your friends, just like the cover image of the EP.

2. Magnetic

“Magnetic” serves as the debut title track for the album. This track also has a prominent bass and synth line, but more in the form of an electronic dance track. The bass is less swingy, and the synth line has several arpeggios that sound like a harp. This mix makes it sound more fairy-like. The vocals utilize a lot of modulation and layering to add to the dance feel. The song proves to be catchy with its four-on-the-floor rhythm, perfect for social media videos.

3. Midnight Fiction

The next song further gives this album a diverse catalog. It starts with airy vocals, layered with backing vocals and guitar chords. The guitar is played similarly to a ukulele, giving a beach/island vibe to it. The song is perfect for a sunny day in the sand.

4. Lucky Girl Syndrome

The dance genre returns to close out this debut album. We get that prominent bass again, accompanied by guitar and synth. The whistle-like synth line plays into the theme of the song as a carefree kind of feel. This track serves as the group’s second title track. It earns that merit as another catchy song.

Summary

As another girl group under the HYBE umbrella, it’s refreshing to see them differing themselves from their labelmates. I really enjoyed this debut EP. I personally like their genre choices, but I think fans will find their songs catchy as well. This album was pretty diverse, while still establishing their own overall sound. This diversity may prove to have something for everyone, while also being the opposite. I can’t wait to see what they come out with next.
