An R rating is exactly what this Old Man needed.
Logan is trying to lead a life outside of wearing the mantle of Wolverine. While trying to work as a ride sharing driver, gangsters, organizations, and the possible existance of new mutants, keep pulling him back in. When a woman and a young girl enter his life, his little side hussle gets put on hold, to help protect them. When he finds out that the little girl, Laura, possess powers similar to Logan, he is tasked with escorting her to Eden, a safe haven for new mutants, before the organization that created her, finds them first.
Who ever knew that the thing that old Wolvey needed was some good old rated R violence and gore. I could have done without everyone cursing every other sentence, but this was a step in the right direction, even if this is most likely Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah with the claws.
Jackman really poured his heart into this role. He got to use a wide range of emotions during this roller coaster of a movie. We even got some surprising bi-polar moments from Professor X himself, Patrick Stewart. The relatively new actress in the role for X-23, Dafne Keen, wasn’t as strong during her speaking moments, but she was awesome in every action beat for her age.
The pacing was a little problematic for me. The slow parts were really dull, but when the claws and guns were involved, I was on the edge of my seat. At one point, I thought I was watching a Fast and the Furious movie. There is one part, and you’ll know what I’m talking about, when my jaw was litterally dropped. For the sake of keeping it a secret, I’ll let you guys encounter it for your selves.
If the stories are true, this was a great last film for Jackman to wear the mantle, even though he never really did wear it (yellow and brown *cough, cough*). With the exception of pacing problems, I would recommend anyone, comic fan or not, to watch this one. Oh and save your self some time and leave when the credits roll, no stingers here folks.
