Popstar (2016) Review

A Feature Lengthed Lonely Island Video!

Remember the days of Boy Bands? Well this movie is about that time, but super blown out of proportion. So what happens when a lead singer takes on a solo career from their group? Let’s find out in my review of Popster: Never Stop Never Stopping.

The Style Boyz are a hugely popular boyband that are sky rocketting into fame. As this is happening, Conner soon becomes the face of the group as his comrades, Owen and Lawrence, fall to the wayside. Eventually, Conner sets off on his Solo Career as Connor4Real. I’m pretty sure that this is starting to sound familiar to you guys.

Popstar sounds like a straightforward movie by how this review sounds so far, but it’s actually a mockumentary about a group, similar to The Lonely Island. Imagine watching a pop group evolve, but where everything they do and sing about is pretty outlandish. If you heard a Lonely Island song, this is that, but in a feature length film.

If you like Saturday Night Live and the comedy stylings of Adam Samburg and The Lonely Island, you’ll have a fun time with this movie. This may not be for everyone though. You pretty much have to be acquainted with today’s humor, you know, the weird kind. Go and check it out!
