It was Batman v Superman, but good!
Sure, superheroes save the day, but what are the repercussions of their heroic actions? Normal citizens suffer from the crossfire of the Avenger’s battles. Should the Avengers actions be monitored? Should they have the freedom to make their own decisions? Let’s find out in my review of Captain America: Civil War.
After the events of Age of Ultron, it’s becoming more apparent that the existence of The Avengers attract devastating powers to prey on the world of the MCU. These fateful bouts cause a lot of destruction and may affect the lives of many. A run in with one of those affected, has caused Tony Stark to rethink how The Avengers should conduct themselves. To help keep them in check, the Sekovia Accords is introduced to keep a watchful eye over The Avengers, but this proves to cause a rift in the team. Divided, each side fights for their ideals.
This movie was tooooooooo gooooooooood! The comic arc that this was based off of was one of the first Marvel events that I read and what ultimately made me a Marvel Fanboy. The two mediums may differ, but they both utilized their established universes to tell an awesome story. A big appeal of the comic event was that they had almost every character involved. The movie universe technically has the same thing, but it’s not as massive as the books, also with the absence of 2 big characters.
The pacing was done really well. It was a multi-layered sandwich. After each action scene was a story scene, rinse, repeat. Unlike BvS, where it was all story then one action scene, this definitely is more appealing. Each action scene was a big highlight of the film, but the Airport fight was one for the ages. They even managed to keep some things secret from the trailers. I cheered for each set piece.
This movie is for anyone, comic fan or not. If you haven’t watched some of the previous films, it may be hard to figure out what is going on. With the sheer popularity that Marvel has gathered for their characters, you may not even need to know the history of each one, you probably only need to know who’s who. I had a blast watching this, that I already watched it 3 times as of writing this review. Go watch it!
