“All the action you’ll ever need”
A SWAT team finds themselves raiding an apartment complex, but don’t know the reason why. Soon, they find themselves fighting their way out. Why are they in this situation? Let’s find out in my review of The Raid Redemption.
Following orders, Jaka and his team are tasked with clearing out an apartment complex. Everything is going fine, until they come accross a child who alerts a mob boss who’s overseeing the complex. He then tasks everyone to execute the SWAT team. Soon we learn that the team was sent there to take down the mob boss, who is running a drug lab. Now it is up to them to carry out the task, and escape with their lives.
This movie was action-packed! With that, it is also pretty graphic. They end up showing like all of the violence, so you should be warned if you're squeamish, even if it is CGI. It starts off as a SWAT movie, but ends up being a martial arts one, so there is a variety of action. I haven’t seen action like this since the Ong Bak movies. If I didn’t look it up, I would have assumed that the main guy was Tony Jaa (but he isn’t). The fight scenes were choreographed well with the occasional, “how did the shoot that?” shots.
The story however was pretty simple and was outshined by the action. I would have been okay with there being no story or sub-stories for just a movie about raiding a drug lab. It was sort of like the Game of Death in a sense with climbing a tower and meeting new challenges at every level.
I know I’m a little late to watching this, but this is a good movie for anyone who loves martial arts movies. Like I said, be forewarned of the graphic violence. You would also enjoy this if you’re just a fan of action movies. Check it out!
