KCON 2018 LA Presented by Toyota is a Korean Culture event that took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, between August 10-12, 2018. Along with 3 nights of scheduled entertainment, including musical acts and martial arts, came a jam-packed convention. Aside bringing Kpop stars to town, guests were greeted with cultural food, beauty products and demos, fashion, and more! Most of this can be experienced with only the convention pass. Upon entering the main hall, visitors are immediately thrown into the thick of things, choosing what to do first is the hard part.
One of the first things you may run into are booths that have Kpop experiences. The first one that we ran into was the constant dance party at the Toyota booth, where a random play dance session was currently happening. There are other booths that give away free swag and host giveaways. In the same area, you can find a huge wall to scrawl things on, along with a postage area for messages to the booked guests. Throughout the show, some of these booths even bring out some of the honoured guests for scheduled events.
Closeby, fashion and makeup booths can be found with several different offerings. Aside from the music industry, these are some of the biggest facets of Korean Pop culture. From skincare, to makeup, to several clothing vendors, you can kickstart your foreway into the styles that your favorite idols are into. While you’re in the area, feel free to browse the different vendors that sell albums, lightsticks, and memorabilia.
Want to experience Korean culture outside of pop music? No problem! There are several exhibitors to educate you on other things that this country has to offer. If you were interested in visiting the country, there are booths that can get you started on your next adventure.
Feeling hungry, well there’s an answer for that. Maybe you noticed the huge Mcdonald’s food truck that offers games and photo ops, along with some of their famous menu. You’ll also find some other small bites while inside of the convention hall, along with a generously sized dining area where you can stop for a rest. If you want to experience a wider menu, there is a whole outdoor market between the Convention Center and L.A. Live.
If you want to burn off a few of those calories, there is a workshop stage where you can learn your favorite Kpop routines from dedicated fans, or the choreographers themselves! If you wanted to learn a specific choreography, don’t worry, there is a full list of the whole weekend of the routines being taught, along with who’s teaching.
Want to see some live performances? The Convention Stage has a schedule of a plethora of events, all you need is your convention wristband. From interviews, to performances by your favorite Idols and cover groups, to up-and-coming performers, you’ll find a lot here. Just be sure to grab a spot before it fills up, because it can get pretty crowded.
If you wanted to see your favorite idols in person, you can sign up for a red carpet appearance or Hi Touch. These cost extra, but meeting them is a whole different experience than just watching them in concert. Chung Ha, Fromis_9, Momoland, Crush, Pentagon, Wanna One, and Twice are just a few names that you could see.
All of this and more can be experienced by just attending the convention. If this wasn’t enough, each night was filled with fantastic performances at the Klub KCON and Mnet Concert. Over the weekend, a record-breaking 94,000 fans flocked to KCON. For more information on this and future events, fans are invited to visit www.kconusa.com.
