Moonlight Wins Best Picture, After Wrong Envelope Read

One of the most controversial moments in Oscar’s history happened last night. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were assigned to announce the biggest award of the night, Best Picture. When opening the envelope, Beatty seemed perplexed. Confused, he handed the card to Dunaway, who read the movie that was on the card, La La Land.

The cast and crew celebrated, and the producers began to give their speeches. The stage manager soon came out with a red envelope. After looking at the one that Dunaway had, it seemed that something was wrong. By the end of the current speech, the producer said, “We lost, by the way, so you know.”

Over the mic, you can hear the manager, hosts, and crew murmuring about the results until La La Land producer, Jordan Horowitz, took control of the situation and announced the real winner, Moonlight. Kimmel tried to suggest that everyone should be awarded, but Horowitz insisted to award the real winners. It’s still unclear to what happened with the incorrect envelope as of this article.

During the mix-up, Beatty showed that the envelope that he had was that of Emma Stone’s Best Actress Award. Stone claimed that her publicist possessed her envelope the whole time. We will provide updates as they are revealed.
