10. Get Out

The directorial debut of the Jordan Peele of Madtv and Key & Peele fame. This horror taken to whole new places is a movie that can be talked about for ages. It is a wild ride that takes us through a quite extreme version of meeting the parents. This is one that cannot be passed up, especially in this day and age.

9. Logan

Loosely based on the great marvel book, Old Man Logan, Wolverine is well done with the superhero business and working as an Uber driver. Unknown to him, he’s about to be roped in again. An R Rating feels just like what the franchise needed. This dramatic take on the character tells a story of a person with personal troubles and not just super villains.

8. The Shape of Water

A visually stunning love story told with the masterful hand of Guillermo del Toro. It’s amazing how much emotion can be shown on screen without saying a word. This adult fantasy should be seen because Del Toro is one of the only one’s brave enough to tell a story like this one today.

7. Coco

Another great one rolls out of Pixar studios. It’s great to see how their graphics get better and better with each entry. This follows a sweet story about family and tugs at your heartstrings. I really liked the writing because it took me for a ride.

6. The Disaster Artist

The comedic retelling of one of the cult classic, The Room, also known as one of the worst movies ever. James Franco transforms into aspiring actor/producer/director, Tommy Wiseau, and prepares us for an onslaught of laughs. You don’t need to watch The Room to have a great time here.

5. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor has gotten a major face lift in this third solo movie. The God of Thunder is back in a brighter role compared to the previous movies. The world is very vibrant and one of the most gorgeous Marvel hero flicks. Taika Waititi leaves his mark on the MCU and it’s a welcomed entry. Prepare for laughs all the way through.

4. Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

Star Wars film, period. Prepare to have your minds blown at one of the most shocking entries into the series. It’s so shocking that it even tears fans right down the middle. You either like it or you condemn it. Either way, this is a beautiful movie with shock factor.

3. Baby Driver

A very stylish heist movie with an all-star soundtrack to accompany it. A fun ride from start to finish that feels like you’re playing a video game. Robbery, love, revenge, it’s all here. It’s great to know that this kind of a film can be wide released in theaters.

2. The Big Sick

This is a great early showing of Amazon as a distributor. The amazing real story of Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily Gordon, is shown on the big screen. This is a wonderful story to tell the world. A relatable tale if you grew up in an immigrant family. The love story alone is worth the price of the ticket.

1. Your Name

A modern take on a magical love story. A peek into the comparison between the big city and the countryside, modern living and tradition. The illustrations are captivating. When you learn about what’s going on, it is a clever take on a story mechanic. Although it can be dismissed as being a Japanese Anime, this is one that shouldn’t be missed.
