FFXIV Blog #1 - Prelude

One of my big pastimes is videogames. The MMORPG is one of the genres that I find my self on and off of time to time. I’ve had my fill with games like Runescape, Maple Story, FFXI, WOW, and currently, FFXIV. FFXI was the first one that I spent a significant time with. I spent a lot of time with WOW too, but FFXI was a different experience.

It all started when a middle school friend of mine handed me the controller while playing his account during a sleepover. Although a little slow in comparison to the other games I’ve listed, I got interested in it. I rushed out when I saved enough money for the Ps3 version, yeah, the one with the hard drive. After installing everything (which took forever), I finally got to start my first character.

Always identifying with rogues in RPG’s, I naturally rolled a rogue, which started the endless hours of my journey. Whether it was the first days of experience parties in the Valkurm Dunes, Finally riding airships from Jueno to the 3 starting areas, or getting my first set of Artifact Armor, I had a lot of fun, despite it’s slowness.

In fact, I never really did make it to “The Real Game” in all my time playing the game. I think I’ve been playing the game over the course of 4/5 years, but I didn’t mind, because I was surrounded by nice and helpful people. In the MMORPG world, everyone always says the game doesn’t start until you hit max level. I think the furthest I’ve gotten was like lvl 70, while the current level cap was 75. This was probably due to the ability to make your character change jobs as freely as you wanted, so I got a couple of characters to the 40s. I barely even touched the quests, it was mostly experience party grinding.

Eventually, I stopped my service because of funding. Monthly subscriptions are probably the biggest reason that I’ve stopped playing FFXI and WOW. Maybe I’ll go back and play them some day, but FFXIV is on my mind nowadays. I didn’t even expect to play honestly. I wasn’t too excited after hearing about the whole failure thing pre-ARR. After hearing that the game has a free trial, I check it out for the heck of it. And guess what, I’m already hooked. This blog will recount my days playing, so stay tuned! One of my big pastimes is videogames. The MMORPG is one of the genres that I find my self on and off of time to time.
